Agar's predecessor Bobbie Goulding selected Australian Clint Greenshields for the 2009 Four Nations Series after the Catalan full-back qualified under the three-year residency rule. Agar will also be able to consider the Dragons' scrum-half Scott Dureau, who is now in his third season with the Perpignan-based Super League club.

Neither Greenshields nor Dureau will be in Agar's provisional 40-strong squad to be announced this weekend but they could be called up before he has to finalise his squad by October 1. "We'll do it the French way," said Agar, who plans to hold some discussions ahead of Wakefield's match against the Catalans in Perpignan on Saturday.

"It's really important for me that everybody is comfortable if we're going to pick from outside French people.

"If the French Federation and the senior players are happy for that to happen, then I'll respect their wishes. If they want it to be all-French, we'll go that way.

"We've already talked about that but I'm going to talk some more with the staff and the French president and in particular with the senior guys this weekend.

"As a coach you're going to pick your best players but I will respect their opinions on how they want to go.

"One thing for sure is that I won't be scouring the NRL for anybody with an apostrophe in his name.

"There are not that many. Off the top of my head, Clint Greenshields qualifies, Dimitri Pelo is French anyway and there's someone like Scott Dureau that would qualify on residential rules.

"I just want a steer on it to see how they feel about it because I don't want to talk to these guys about creating a French identity and then rip it apart by bringing in NRL players that have got no connection with the French game."
