The 26-year-old Australian, who made the Super League Dream Team in each of his first two seasons with the Dragons, has not played since undergoing surgery to remove a brain tumour in January.
Dureau returned to Perpignan in March and has now been told by a neurological specialist in Toulouse that he is fit enough to resume contact training and he will undergo further tests in a month's time to set a date for his comeback.
A Catalan spokesman said: "Following a complete recovery since his operation to remove a tumour in January, the doctor has decided that the Catalan scrum-half is ready to return to training without any restrictions.
"Scott Dureau will have new exams in four weeks to determine if he can receive the all-clear to resume playing."
Dureau has scored 558 points in 59 appearances since joining the Dragons from Newcastle Knights in 2011.
