Rugby League - Giants end Widnes hoodoo

A double from Larne Patrick and Brett Ferres, plus a tormenting first half-performance from Danny Brough, ensured Huddersfield victory at Widnes for the first time since 2004 as they won 36-22.

Larne Patrick, bottom, scores one of his two tries for Huddersfield

The Giants have been on the wrong end of some poor score-lines at Stobart Stadium in recent years but not this time as Paul Anderson' side put in a controlled display that contained some neat finishing and execution as Aaron Murphy and Brough also got tries.

Brough was the main thorn in the Vikings side with his exquisite kicking and ball handling and Widnes struggled to contain him. The hosts had just a solitary try from Paddy Flynn in the first half but Stefan Marsh crossed twice in the second period, while Lloyd White also went over.
