Speedway disappeared from the stadium in 1997 and a planning application has been submitted to Bradford Council to bring it back. T
he man behind the proposal is British Speedway president Tony Mole, who could be facing opposition from the RFL, who bought the ground from the Bulls in January 2012 to safeguard its use as a rugby league venue.
A spokesman said: "The RFL would like to express surprise at the news that speedway promoter Tony Mole has submitted a planning application to Bradford Council to stage speedway meets at Odsal Stadium."
He added: "The governing body has had no contact from Mr Mole or any other party about restoring a speedway track at the stadium."
The news will be an embarrassment for the Bulls, who were awarded a 12-month provisional Super League licence following last year's takeover by local businessman Omar Khan and are currently in talks with the game's governing body over an extension.
A decision on the planning application is due by June 10, with Mole telling the Bradford Telegraph and Argus: "I think the council will find it difficult to refuse the application. The stadium had established use for over 10 seasons in the past."
