The Rugby Pod’s Premiership Picks - Week 5

The Rugby Pod’s Jack Pitt identifies some of the star performers from this weekend’s Aviva Premiership actions.

Louis Picamoles

The French star is already making waves in the Shire, and it’s clear to see from his performances why he has a high price tag. He instantly puts Northampton on the front foot and his tackling is ferocious. He has played every game so far this season, a rest will be needed soon and it will be interesting to see how Northampton cope without him.

Tom Dunn

His first Premiership start and Dunn was outstanding. His work rate is incredible and he was everywhere on the pitch. There is stiff competition for the two shirt at Bath, but he isn’t doing his chances any harm with performances like we saw over the weekend.

Will Addison

This guy was great in Sale’s win over Leicester and has had a strong start to the season. A player that can play across the back line, his running lines this season have been impressive. At only 24, he has a lot of time to learn and grow. He could be a real asset to the Sharks going forward. A note for Cameron Neild who was also excellent at the weekend.

Nathan Hughes

Back to his best this weekend, Guy Thompson’s form this season has put him in the shadows but Hughes should never be ignored. He was impressive going forward and thunderous in defence. His fellow England counterpart Sam Jones was also impressive this weekend, the Wasps back row is the envy of many.

Wynand Olivier

A consistent performer so far this season and scored the crucial try at the weekend. Worcester will need the key men like him to step up to the plate in the coming weeks to ensure they get points on the board, his defensive prowess and attacking ability should stand him in good stead.
