Botswana will host the 2021 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier. The top team of this competition will be progressing to the 2022 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament. The three African associates team, Botswana, Cameroon, and Eswatini will be making their debuts in this tournament.
Initially, the tournament was scheduled to take place in October but was later preponed to ease the fixture congestion.
A total of 11 teams will be taking part in this tournament and the teams are divided into two groups: Group A and Group B. Group A includes Botswana, Eswatini, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe while the next group i.e. Group B includes Cameroon, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Uganda.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from 9th September to the 19th of September. All the matches of this tournament will be played at Botswana Cricket Association Oval 1, Gaborone.
The inaugural contest from Group A will see Rwanda Women squaring off against Mozambique Women on the Day 1 of the competition. Marie Bimenyimana will be leading the Rwanda Women side while Olga Matsolo will have the captaincy responsibilities of the Mozambique Women’s side.
Both the teams have a bunch of young players on their list who will be desperate to showcase their skills on such a big platform and help their side manifest the dreams of playing the 2022 Women’s World Cup.
