Former Rangers hero Ryan Kent has seen his Turkish nightmare come to an end - with Fenerbahce ripping up his contract to leave him on the proverbial scrapheap.

Kent, who spent five seasons at Ibrox after joining in 2018, departing for the Super Lig giants at the start of last season on a free transfer after a relatively poor end to his spell in Govan. But with just 18 appearances last season - including just eight in the league - Kent found himself on the peripherals of the squad, and just one appearance this season further pushed him down the pecking order.

As a result, Fenerbahce announced on Thursday evening that they had terminated the Liverpudlian's contract to bring his spell in Istanbul to a harsh end, and now the Liverpool academy graduate is free to find a new club.

A Fenerbahce club statement read: "To inform The contract with Ryan Kent, one of the Professional Football A Team players, has been terminated by mutual agreement. We present it to the public."

It's a disappointing turn in Kent's career, especially after showing so much promise under Steven Gerrard at Ibrox. Having only turned out for Liverpool once in an FA Cup match against Exeter City in 2016, a series of uninspiring loan deals at Coventry City, Barnsley, Bristol City and Bundesliga side Augsburg saw him move to Rangers under former Reds academy boss Gerrard - and he hit the ground running.

218 appearances in all competitions garnered 33 goals and 56 assists, with his talents helping the Gers end their long wait for a Scottish Premiership title, whilst his outings in the run to the Europa League final back in 2022 were exceptional. For now though, he remains unattached and approaching his 28th birthday, the winger will be keen to join a new club.
