Ryan Mason is set to remain at Tottenham Hotspur after an approach from Belgian side Anderlecht.

The Jupiler Pro League side approached the Spurs first team coach this month but after discussions over the past few days, football.london understands that both parties have mutually decided the timing isn't right.

The 33-year-old is understood to enjoy being part of Ange Postecoglou's project at Tottenham and will continue his role within the Australian's staff, which contains Matt Wells, Nick Montgomery, Sergio Raimundo, Mile Jedinak and goalkeeping coach Rob Burch.

Brian Riemer was sacked as Anderlecht boss last month after two years at the club with them struggling in the Jupiler Pro League and they currently sit fourth in the table with just four wins from their 10 matches so far. Mason became one of the frontrunners to take over as the new head coach of the Belgian giants.

However, Anderlecht have now turned to David Hubert to continue his caretake role as the permanent head coach of the club. The 36-year-old led the side to two draws and a win in the league and managed to win both games in the Europa League.

Mason has had two previous spells in caretaker charge of Spurs, first after Jose Mourinho left the club and then in the wake of Antonio Conte's departure.

The young coach took charge of 13 matches in total for Tottenham, recording six wins, one draw and six defeats, with 26 goals scored and 21 conceded. He was at the helm for Spurs' Carabao Cup final appearance against Manchester City in 2021, which Pep Guardiola's side won with a late Aymeric Laporte goal. He was only 29 during his first spell in charge of Spurs and was the youngest manager to ever coach a Premier League match.
