Ryan Sessegnon has welcomed the opportunity to pile the pressure on Arsenal in the Premier League top-four race by beating Burnley.

Spurs head into their penultimate game of the season having blown the race for Champions League football wide open again. Arsenal could have clinched fourth spot with a win in Thursday’s north London derby.

However, fifth-placed Tottenham cut the gap to just a point with a thumping 3-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Antonio Conte’s men can now go two points ahead of the Gunners by beating Burnley on Sunday. Arsenal have the chance to subsequently respond to whatever Tottenham do when facing Newcastle away on Monday.

Full-back Sessegnon told the Daily Mirror: “Arsenal still have the advantage. They’re one point ahead.

“You could say the momentum is with us after the great win on Thursday but that’s done now. We need to focus on Burnley.

“It probably is the best way to just get the Burnley game over and to get the win, hopefully, so then it puts the pressure back on them on Monday night — that’s our next focus.”

Sessegnon insisted that Thursday’s result showed Tottenham can “deal with the pressure of many difficult situations”.

Nevertheless, the 21-year-old insisted that Spurs must “keep reminding ourselves”.

But Sessegnon has said that Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Hugo Lloris are all inspiring the top-four push in the dressing room.

“It’s vital. Especially games like Thursday, they have played those types of games, they’ve been in this situation before,” Sessegnon said of the trio who starred in Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham team.

“They’ve been trying to fight to get in the Champions League in previous seasons for the club.

“We need those people in and around the changing room to settle the nerves, speak to the younger players, and keep us focused. It’s very important.”

Winning against Burnley on Sunday would prove a massive result on a number of fronts for Tottenham.

Not only can they go two points clear of Arsenal, it is Spurs’ final home game of the season.

What’s more, it is a chance to prove their credentials against a team they lost to when in inconsistent form earlier in the season.

Indeed, Burnley claimed a 1-0 win over Conte’s men at Turf Moor. That led Conte to express serious doubt over his future, admitting he had seen little progress.

Now, though, Tottenham have turned a corner and they can stamp their mark with a win over Burnley, who also need the victory in their battle against relegation.
