Ryder Cup prospect Thomas Pieters among latest batch of LIV Golf signings
Pieters, ranked 34th in the world, was part of Continental Europe's winning Hero Cup team earlier this year and was considered a contender for Luke Donald's Ryder Cup team in Rome this September. His most recent appearance on the DP World Tour resulted in a sixth-place finish at last month's Hero Dubai Desert Classic. Pieters, who will now be barred from participating in PGA Tour events and will no longer accrue any rankings points while playing for LIV, took to Twitter to confirm the news. The Belgian was none too pleased with the PGA Tour last week after revealing he was ineligible to feature at the PGA Tour's Genesis Invitational, despite being ranked much higher than many other players in the field. "Sad to miss my favourite tournament of the year. Because well as No 34 in world, I just couldn't get in," he tweeted. Pieters could not secure a sponsor's exemption at the event, despite finishing runner-up to Dustin Johnson in 2017. Joining Pieters in making the switch is three-time PGA Tour winner Brendan Steele, New Zealand's Danny Lee and South African World No 63 Dean Burmester. With the confirmation of these four players joining, LIV Golf has now confirmed all of its team line-ups ahead of the start of the 2023 season, which will feature an expanded 14-event schedule. Pieters will be part of Bubba Watson's Range Goats GC team, while Steele will join Phil Mickelson's HyFlyers GC. Lee has been added to the Iron Heads GC captained by Kevin Na, while Burmester joins Louis Oosthuizen's all-South African team Stinger GC.
