Sadio Mane’s recent Liverpool exit has prompted the Reds to look to Chelsea for a replacement, as they reportedly have their sights set on Timo Werner.

Mane was one of Liverpool’s most important assets during his time at the club. The forward contributed to 168 goals in 269 appearances for the Reds.

The Senegalese has been branded a Liverpool “legend” by Jurgen Klopp. Indeed, Mane has now departed the club for Bayern Munich after six great seasons at Anfield.

His shoes will be tough to fill, given his impact on the side. Mane was one of the best players across the whole of the Premier League during his Liverpool tenure.

The forward sits within the top-25 goalscorers in Premier League history, and was the joint winner of the golden boot in the 2018/19 campaign.

The Reds have already begun to fill the void Mane has left. They have signed prolific forward Darwin Nunez, who is competent as a winger.

However, Klopp reportedly has his sights set on a Premier League star to truly plug the gap. Football Insider claims that Chelsea forward Timo Werner is a target of Liverpool’s.

No approach has been made, per the report, but Liverpool appear keen. Klopp reportedly feels the German would suit his style of play.

Liverpool would likely have no problems in conjuring up the required fee for the Chelsea star. Especially since they parted ways with Mane, and received £28.8million for his services.

It might not take too much more than that to lure Werner away from the Blues. Transfermarkt values the forward at £31.5million.

Werner to Liverpool an interesting move

A move to Liverpool would be an interesting one for Werner. He has not exactly set the league alight during his time at Chelsea: scoring just 23 goals in 89 appearances.

However, he clearly has some assets that stand him in good stead. His pace, which allows him to get the better of defenders and find himself in behind is a useful skill.

Pacy attackers are a staple of Klopp’s system, and he could put him to good use. There is every chance that Klopp is able to get the best out of the Chelsea man.

Neither Mohamed Salah nor Mane joined Liverpool as the finished article, but have both thrived under the Reds manager.
