Sadio Mane sends strong message to Jurgen Klopp doubters and reveals what players think of Liverpool boss
Sadio Mane has fully backed his old boss Jurgen Klopp to turn Liverpool around, despite continuing rumours that the Anfield chief is on the hotseat.
Mane quit the Reds for Bayern Munich in a £35.1million deal last summer, having had a trophy-laden six-year spell at Anfield, after deciding to they he needed a fresh challenge.
The Senegal international scored 120 goals for the club in 269 games and won six trophies in that time.
However, Liverpool have struggled badly in his absence this season, although they’ve not been helped by injuries across their forward line too.
That has led to speculation over Klopp’s long-term future and whether he will be trusted to undergo a rebuild of his squad.
But as far as Mane is concerned, it’s only a matter of time before Klopp gets Liverpool back to their best again.
Speaking to Bild, the 30-year-old said: “Liverpool will be back. I’m convinced they will overcome this situation.
“They had many injuries and tough tests, but Jurgen Klopp is definitely the right man. He will lead Liverpool back up, from this season – the players love him.”
Mutual respect clear between Klopp, Mane
The mutual respect and admiration between Mane and Klopp is very obviously clear, despite the player’s exit last summer.
Indeed, Klopp, when asked about the forward earlier in the season, said: “A good guy and a top player. But missing it sounds like I still want him here. I think it’s really okay that Sadio just wanted to do something different.
“Absolutely. I totally respect that. The way it went was great. We knew that he would do something different without breaking up badly. That must be possible in life.
“That’s exactly what happened. Are we missing him? Yes! But I’m happy too. That he’s where he wanted to be. We’ll solve our problems here. Sadio is an outstanding player. Everyone in Munich saw that too. He’s absolutely world-class. Everything will be fine.”
The rumours about Klopp’s future continue, despite the fact that he has a long-term contract.
And Reds legend Jamie Carragher sees no panicking from the Anfield hierarchy before the season ends.
The pundit told the Daily Mirror last month: “Liverpool is a unique football club in how they deal with managers. I don’t think there are many clubs around the world like Liverpool.
“When Liverpool win the manager is the star it is all about the manager, and I like that about our club because it always gives the manager a sense of power and there is not too much panic from within the club that the manager would go.”
The Reds are back in action on Wednesday night when they host Wolves in the Premier League.
