The self-drive boat hire company GoBoat looks set to make a splash in the city as the company has announced it is opening a third site in Canary Wharf.

The electric day boats will be available for hire from May 17 for groups of up to eight, at the new site on Bellmouth Passage. Like the two existing GoBoats in Paddington and Kingston, which are open now, groups can take boats out without the need for a skipper, captain or tour guide. Training is given before each potter about on the water, and boats are sanitised between bookings.

As with the Paddington and Kingston sites, picnicing is encouraged and guests can take their own food and drink aboard as they sail around Docklands. Trips can be booked for one, two or three hour trips, and are both dog and child friendly, with life jackets and buoyancy aids provided. Prices start at £89 per vessel.

GoBoat co-owner Julian Wootton said of news: “When we launched the business, we always wanted to expand across London but never did we think that we’d be opening in Canary Wharf. It’s honestly, one of London’s most picturesque spots and seeing the heart of our capital from the water is truly something special.

“We very recently reopened our other two sites in Paddington and Kingston and it’s been incredible watching everyone come back with a smile on their face. We’re very grateful that we’re in a position to be able to get back to a form of normality. We’re all very excited to see how the new site takes off.”

Inspired by similar offerings in Denmark, GoBoat first launched in London in 2017, when they were capital's first self-drive day boats. The company has long prided itself on being he eco-friendly, with its launches made of 80 per cent recycled plastic bottles and using electric engines to hum along at around three-and-a-half knots (4mph).
