The Olympic champion sprung clear in the final kilometre to take the victory two seconds ahead of the peloton.

Sanchez also moved up to second position in General Classification as a result of his victory but is still 1:30 behind overall leader Michael Albasini (GreenEdge)

Allan Davis (GreenEdge) won the bunch sprint to finish second on the stage with stage 5 winner Julien Simon (Saur-Sojasun) finishing third.
