The captain of the club’s amateur team, 33, has only made two appearances for the senior side this season, but boss Felix Magath said his role encompassed more than simply playing.
"He enjoys a high level of respect at the club," Magath said. "That is why we are glad to be able to plan for another season with him."
The former Bochum and Cologne midfielder, who has had spells in Norway and Greece, will continue to be registered with the second team, who play in Germany’s lower leagues.
Schindzielorz has made a total of eight Bundesliga appearances for the senior side in four years at the club.
