Scotland team news vs Gibraltar confirmed as Lawrence Shankland leads line

Steve Clarke has plenty of thinking to do over the coming days with his Scotland squad to be finalised on Friday night, a week ahead of facing Germany.

But just as difficult as picking the pool of 26 and then the XI to take on the Euro 2024 host nation in that opening game will be to come up with an starting team against Gibraltar today. On top of the absentees we already knew about as injuries kept them from the squad, Scott McTominay, John Souttar and Stuart Armstrong will play no part.

Clarke had already dropped a huge hint by saying that players who hadn't had much game time towards the end of the season with their clubs would get the chance to build up their sharpness ahead of the tournament. That's led to a rather unfamiliar feel to the side which has now been confirmed.

Scotland starting XI: Clark, McCrorie, Robertson, Hanley, Porteous, McGinn, Christie, Gilmour, Forrest, McLean, Shankland.

Subs: Gunn, Kelly, Gordon, Ralston, Tierney, McGregor, Adams, Hendry, Cooper, Taylor, Jack, McKenna.
