Scott Brown snubbed a SECOND St Johnstone approach before signing a contract extension with Ayr United.

The Celtic hero and Honest Men head coach and his assistant Steven Whittaker both decided to remain at Somerset Park and pen an extension until 2027. It was confirmation for fans as the club won the internet with their Wolf of Wall Street inspired announcement.

Brown was also recently tipped to become St Johnstone's new boss following the sacking of Craig Levein earlier this week. The Saints did make an approach to speak with Broony but he opted against it. And now the Scottish Sun claim the McDiarmid Park outfit tried a second time before he decided on a new deal with the Championship club.

Chairman David Smith told the same publication that the club are "flattered" that top flight sides are chasing their boss who has taken his side to the top of the league early on.

Smith said: “We have come so far and it’s flattering that a Premiership club is interested in our manager but he has chosen to stay.”

Rhys McCabe of Airdrieonians and Aberdeen coach Peter Leven is also believed to be on their shortlist. As is Larne’s Tiernan Lynch.
