Scott Brown is under consideration for the St Johnstone job, according to a report.

The Celtic legend is one of three candidates named for the vacancy after leading Ayr United to the summit of the Championship after taking charge and steadying the ship last season. It is Brown's second managerial role after being sacked by Fleetwood Town, where he had an initial impact before struggling at the start of his second campaign.

Larne manager Tiernan Lynch has also emerged as a serious candidate, reports the Courier. The Northern Irishman has won two successive league titles in his homeland and also qualified his side for the group stages of the Europa Conference League this season. Larne had never previously won a top flight title and the 44-year-old has made a name for himself.

Owner Kenny Bruce said of Lynch: “He is the secret source behind the success. This guy is way, way above any manager in the Irish League. He has proved that time and time again. Tiernan learned on the job and he just gets better and better. He surrounds himself with great people, which is really important. He creates an environment where a great culture can flourish.”

Another name in the frame is Peter Leven. The former Kilmarnock midfielder is a highly-rated coach and impressed during two short stints as Aberdeen's caretaker boss during their turmoil last season. He is currently an assistant coach to Jimmy Thelin.

The report claims Saints chiefs have started to draw up their shortlist and those are three of the names on their radar. Andy Kirk is currently temporary boss and could be another option.
