Scott McKenna an ideal Celtic transfer target but Hoops warned they will have competition

Celtic have been told that Scott McKenna is the ideal profile for them to be targeting.

The Scotland defender is available on a free transfer after leaving Nottingham Forest and has previously been linked to both the Hoops and Rangers. Having spent the end of last season on loan at Copenhagen, he has experience of the Champions League, Premier League and 35 international caps.

It's not often someone of that pedigree becomes available for nothing and his former Scotland teammate Stephen O'Donnell reckons that represents a no-brainer. It's believed Brendan Rodgers is after a left-sided centre half and the Motherwell man would certainly swoop for McKenna if it was his decision.

He told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: "He is a player I know really well. I am friends with him. He is out of contract and any international who is out of contract who has played in the Premier League 50 times, there has got to be interest from both sides of the Old Firm.

"There will be lots of interest from other clubs in other countries but if they (Celtic) wanted him they would try and get him. Would I sign him for Celtic? Yeah, probably but I don’t know what the manager is looking for."
