Scott McTominay has lauded the impact of three of Manchester United’s new signings but left one surprise name off his list.
The Red Devils made it back-to-back league victories for the first time since February with a 1-0 triumph at Southampton on Saturday, ending a run of seven straight away defeats in the Premier League.
Lisandro Martinez once again partnered Raphael Varane in defence with Harry Maguire on the bench alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro.
The latter made his United debut with 11 minutes to, having signed from Real Madrid last week.
And McTominay, who was once again trusted as Erik ten Hag’s only defensive-minded midfielder, claims the club’s new signings have made a big impact on and off the pitch.
Speaking after the win at St Mary’s, the Scotland international said: “We have to make sure the team spirit keeps lifting.
“The guys that we’ve brought in, Casemiro and Lisandro [Martinez], they’re doing an amazing job in training. Obviously we just want them to settle in as quickly as possible.
“To learn from someone like him [Casemiro], who has done pretty much everything in the game, is amazing. His mentality, the way that he is so firm with everything that he does. He’s an amazing footballer who can help us so much and be one of our main players.
“It’s great to have him, we love him and Lisandro, Tyrell [Malacia] as well. The guys that we have brought in are doing a great job and long may that continue.”
No Eriksen in McTominay praise for new boys
One name not mentioned there by McTominay is the club’s other high-profile signing Christian Eriksen.
The Dane joined the club in mid-July after deciding against a permanent move to Brentford.
Eriksen excelled in a short-term deal with the Bees last season, with his performances eventually earning him a switch to Old Trafford.
However, the playmaker has so far failed to stamp his authority on United’s midfield. Indeed, he has been substituted in three of United’s four outings so far.
The 30-year-old is likely to get the nod again when Leicester host United at the King Power on Thursday evening. But he will now be fearing Casemiro’s presence in Ten Hag’s squad, if the Dutchman decides to be more pragmatic with his midfield against the Foxes.
