Craig Mackail-Smith was on target twice as Brighton won for the first time

Brighton cashed in against Barnsley to record their first npower Championship win of the season, seeing off the Yorkshire side 5-1.

Ashley Barnes scored twice, as did Craig Mackail-Smith, while Wayne Bridge scored from 35 yards as Craig Davies' penalty was left worthless for the Tykes.

In-demand striker Jordan Rhodes scored his second goal in as many games for Huddersfield as they recorded their first win back in the second tier, with the Scotland international adding to Joel Lynch's opener as Burnley were beaten 2-0.

Bristol City remain unbeaten after stunning Cardiff 4-2 at Ashton Gate.

Despite scoring four in midweek, Derek McInnes' men were widely expected to find the going harder against the Bluebirds, but a Martyn Woolford brace, a goal from Stephen Pearson and a debut strike from Sam Baldock did the trick.

Joe Mason and Heidar Helguson scored for Cardiff.

Middlesbrough also backed up their midweek win as they saw off winless Crystal Palace 2-1 at the Riverside.

Seb Hines put them ahead and, by the time Jermaine Easter netted from the spot for the Eagles, Merouane Zemmama had already won it.

At Molineux, Theo Robinson scored with the last kick of the game as Derby held Wolves 1-1 - Kevin Doyle had put the home side ahead, while Charlton drew 0-0 with Hull.
