Seahawks end 49ers' perfect start with overtime win

It’s that time again in the NFL season when the 1972 Miami Dolphins alumni can breathe a sigh of relief and maybe even pop a champagne cork or two. After Seattle’s 27-24 win over San Francisco, those Dolphins are still the only team to go an entire season undefeated.

The 49ers went into this NFC West clash with an 8-0 record, but finally came unstuck thanks to a Jason Myers 42-yard field goal, but it took overtime to break Kyle Shanahan’s troops.

In a brilliant Monday Night Football matchup, Myers managed to win the game just one week after missing two field goal attempts and an extra point.

Seattle had an earlier chance to win the game right at the beginning of overtime, but Russell Wilson threw a pick in the red zone, which Dre Greenlaw gratefully gobbled up.

It was the defenses that dominated the game from the off, with both sides scoring defensive touchdowns and managing three takeaways each. Seahawks Jadeveon Clowney, in particular, was in fine form and returned a 10-yard score to get Seattle off the mark.

Unsurprisingly, the 49ers own defense were just as good, with DeForest Buckner grabbing a 12-yard touchdown after Germain Ifedi forced a fumble off Wilson.

With the scores tied at 24 apiece in overtime, it was Wilson’s feet that got his team in position for the win. His 21-yard scramble put the Seahawks in field goal range and Myers took over from there.

The Seahawks are now right in the mix for a divisional win, with an 8-2 record and just behind the 49ers who remain top with 8-1.
