Will We See Miesha Tate Defend Her Title at UFC 200?
The UFC 200 fight card is filling up fast, but there have been no women’s bouts announced thus far. We should expect that to change.
There are several high profile fights lining the card, the least of which is the main event, non-title fight rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor. An interim featherweight championship between former UFC titleholders Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar also holds a spot near the top of the card.
Of the six other fights officially announced by the promotion, none includes a bout between any of the promotion’s female fighters. By the time the fight card is fleshed out, however, there is likely going to be two or three women’s bouts on the docket.
“You should expect a couple,” UFC president Dana White said recently during an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter. “There will be a couple women’s fights at UFC 200. Actually, there will be two or three.”
While White fell short of naming any names, one name that could find its way to the marquee appears to be that of Miesha Tate.
The newly minted women’s bantamweight champion was initially being held back for a rematch with Ronda Rousey, but that was also the initial plan for Holly Holm after she upset Rousey for the title at UFC 193 in November. With Rousey non-committal on a timeline for her return, Holm took a fight with Tate at UFC 196 and lost the belt to her.

Current projections, according to White, put Rousey back in the Octagon sometime in November or December of this year. So would they force Tate to wait on the sidelines until then? Not likely.
White even hinted at the possibility when mentioning women’s fights at UFC 200.
Specifically asked if there would be a women’s title fight at the summer blockbuster, White replied, “Could be.”
If a women’s title fight does find its way onto the card, it would have to feature Tate.
The only other woman that currently holds a title in the UFC is strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. She is currently slated to coach opposite Claudia Gadelha on The Ultimate Fighter 23. She is then expected to defend her belt against Gadelha at the TUF 23 Finale on July 8 in Las Vegas, the night before UFC 200. So she is out.
That leaves Tate.
With most other top contenders already lined up for other fights, if Tate does defend her belt at UFC 200, it would likely be in a rematch with Holly Holm, who is also currently without a fight.
