“This Seems Like A Special Case”: Kapil Dev On Involvement Of MS Dhoni In T20 World Cup As A Mentor

The legendary World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev has welcomed the addition of Former Indian captain MS Dhoni who also won the World Cup, to the Indian team as a mentor for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 event.

Kapil Dev opined that although Dhoni’s addition to the squad is a good decision yet a cricketer after retirement should only make a comeback in national setup after 3-4 years. However, Kapil dev feels that Dhoni returning to the national setup just one year after retirement is a special case.

“It is a good decision. I have always been of the opinion that once a cricketer retires he should come back to the set up only after three four years but this seems like a special case with the World Cup around the corner. Ravi (Shastri) is also down with COVID so it looks a special case,” Kapil said.

Meanwhile, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) while revealing the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 made a surprise announcement regarding MS Dhoni’s involvement in the World Cup.

“As far as Dhoni is concerned, I spoke to him when I was in Dubai,” said Shah. “He was okay with the decision, and he agreed to be a mentor for team India, for the T20 World Cup only.

“I spoke to the captain (Virat Kohli) and vice-captain (Rohit Sharma) as well as Ravi Shastri (the head coach), and that’s why we reached the conclusion.”
