Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation of Serge Gnabry, amid rumours of a possible Arsenal move for their former player.

Gnabry was in England from 2011 until 2016. He originally joined Arsenal U18s from Stuttgart’s youth setup, before making his senior Gunners debut in September 2012.

The winger went on to make just 18 senior appearances for Arsenal, scoring one goal. He also had an unsuccessful loan spell at West Brom before Arsenal sold him to Werder Bremen.

Gnabry got his career back on track at Werder Bremen, notching 11 goals in 27 matches during his only season there.

Bayern paid them £7.2million to take the German to the Allianz Arena and he has gone on to become a serial winner while in Munich.

Gnabry has helped Bayern to win four Bundesliga titles, one Champions League and two DFB-Pokal trophies since joining in 2017.

Last season, the attacker hit 17 goals and registered 10 assists in all competitions. Despite this solid form, Bayern could let him go this summer.

His contract expires next year and the two parties are yet to reach an agreement over an extension.

Serge Gnabry return to Arsenal comes into frame

Bayern have brought in Sadio Mane already this transfer window, meaning Gnabry could fall down the pecking order.

This has led to rumours of a return to Arsenal. Recent reports suggest Manchester United and Manchester City would like to land him as well.

However, Romano plays down the Arsenal links, stating Gunners chiefs are not currently working on a deal to re-sign Gnabry.

Arsenal are focusing on other targets and Gnabry isn’t on their list. However, Romano doesn’t specify which players Edu has in mind right now.

Bayern have put a new contract proposal to the 26-year-old and his agent. Gnabry now needs to figure out whether he wants to remain with the German champions or go elsewhere.

Having already brought in Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira, it makes sense for Arsenal to avoid Gnabry right now. In addition to the new arrivals, they have Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe available in attack – plus others.

Gnabry is likely to remain at Bayern as he is winning plenty of trophies there. However, he may have to settle for less game time next season due to Mane’s arrival.

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Arsenal have reportedly held initial talks with the agent of an Argentina international.
