Arsenal are reportedly readying a firm approach to tempt Lazio into selling Sergej Milinkovic-Savic amid growing claims that Biancocelesti president Claudio Lotito is finally ready to sell his prized asset.

The Serbian has for a number of years been regarded as Lazio’s star performer. Now 27, he has established himself as one of Serie A’s top midfielders during seven excellent seasons at the capital club. During his 294 appearances for the club, Milinkovic-Savic has clocked up 58 goals, including a seasonal high of 11 in 2021/22.

His form has regularly drawn admiring glances from the Premier League’s biggest clubs. Indeed, United were the first to show their hand with Nemanja Matic alerting his potential to Jose Mourinho during his spell in charge at Old Trafford.

Since then, the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are also reportedly among those sides keen.

However, this summer it is Arsenal who have been most strongly linked, with Edu and Mikel Arteta both seemingly big admirers.

And this time, there is a feeling in the Italian media that Lazio, at long last, are willing to sell. The 34-times capped midfielder has just two years left on his deal and appears unwilling to extend his stay. Given the player’s age, Lotito knows this summer represents his last big chance to collect a major pay-day.

Now, according to TuttoJuve, Arsenal are preparing an opening offer for Milinkovic-Savic. The Italian outlet states that is likely to be around the £46.4m (€55m) mark. However, while there first offer faces rejection, hope does remain.

However, there are claims that Lotito will cash in were the Gunners to offer £54.9m (€65m) for the schemer. Stating he wants to ‘make as much money as possible’ from his sale, there is a belief that a move is be on the cards.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic would be huge coup for Arsenal

The report claims Milinkovic-Savic too is open to the idea of a move to Arsenal and is enticed by the prospect of playing in the Premier League.

Arsenal have spent wisely this summer, bringing in Marquinhos, Matt Turner, Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira.

However, Arteta is known to want to sign a lew left-back and a commanding midfielder to complete his summer business.

They are being strongly linked with moves for both Youri Tielemans and N’Golo Kante. Indeed, Chelsea are reportedly preparing to sell the latter for what is being deemed a bargain fee.

However, there is no doubting that Milinkovic-Savic would prove a signing of genuine quality. At the peak of the market, he was rated in the £100m bracket by Lotito. If they could somewhere convince Lazio to sell for around half that amount, then Arsenal will have a steal.

The 27-year-old has experience of playing Champions League football too. And he would potentially move to Arsenal with a real thirst to taste that again with the Gunners.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is considered one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the world game. And he undoubtedly has the tools to be a big success in the Premier League.

The Gunners, meanwhile, are also fans of Lucas Paqueta, though Lyon’s enormous asking price may be a cause for alarm.
