Sergio Pettis is Off UFC Portland Fight Card

Sergio Pettis Picks Up Third Consecutive Win (UFC Phoenix Results)

Sergio Pettis is off of the UFC Fight Night 96 fight card scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1, in Portland, Ore.

Pettis (14-2) was scheduled to No. 9 ranked flyweight Louis Smolka (11-1) in Portland, but suffered a minor injury that has forced him off the card. The news came from his coach, Duke Roufus, in a post on Instagram on Thursday.

“Unfortunately #SergioPettis sustained a minor injury and will not be fighting @louissmolka50a7 at @ufc #ufc#ufcportland,” said Roufus' post. “Respect to #LouisSmolka … Only a speed bump, heal up & ready for action!”

It's a significant setback for Pettis, who is currently ranked No. 15 in the 125-pound division, and coming off of back-to-back victories over Chris Cariaso and Chris Kelades. A victory over the likes of Smolka could have seen him make a significant move toward the upper reaches of the division.

Smolka is riding a four-fight winning streak, his only loss being a split decision to Cariaso.

UFC officials had not commented on Smolka's status for UFC Fight Night: Lineker vs. Dodson, as of the time of publication.
