Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has got his wish as Sergio Reguilon looks set to leave after reportedly saying yes to a Spanish team.

Reguilon was a regular in the Tottenham starting eleven last season, playing in 31 games across all competitions. However, his future at the club came under threat following the arrival of Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan.

And Reguilon was subsequently left out of Conte’s squad for the pre-season tour of South Korea. This told the 25-year-old that he needs to find a new team, or risk spending a season mostly on the bench.

Rumours of a return to Sevilla soon came about. Reguilon already has history with the club after spending the 2019-20 campaign there on loan from Real Madrid.

Talks between Tottenham and Sevilla reached an advanced stage on July 12, as per Football Insider.

However, Julen Lopetegui’s team were not the only side to hold an interest. LaLiga rivals Barcelona were linked with Reguilon’s signature recently.

According to Spanish source Mundo Deportivo, Spurs have offered the defender to Barcelona on a season-long loan.

Estadio Deportivo provide an update on Reguilon’s situation, as cited by Sport Witness. They claim Reguilon has chosen where he wants to play next season, as he is now in agreement with Conte about wanting to leave Spurs.

Terms of Sergio Reguilon loan emerge

The six-time Spain international wants to reunite with Sevilla and continue their ‘successful relationship’. Reguilon helped Sevilla win the Europa League during his only previous campaign at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

Reguilon will leave Spurs on loan, while Sevilla will be given the option to buy him next summer.

Despite this sounding like a simple procedure, it cannot go through immediately. Sevilla are apparently waiting to sell Jules Kounde to Chelsea before completing Reguilon’s signing.

It’s unclear how these two moves are linked, given Sevilla will not have to spend a transfer fee on Reguilon until 2023. But that is what the report claims.

In an ideal world, Conte would probably have kept both Reguilon and Perisic in his squad as left wing-back options. But the former is in his prime and will not want to spend the majority of matches on the bench.

Reguilon was initially hoping to remain at Spurs, despite the setback of being left out of their pre-season squad. However, Conte has now convinced him that moving on is the best option.

It will allow the Madrid-born full-back to get back to his best and potentially force his way into the Spain national team once again.

Conte still has Ryan Sessegnon to deputise for Perisic. While the 22-year-old isn’t as good or as experienced as Reguilon, he is still a decent backup option. Plus, the Englishman has plenty of time to develop into a reliable wide player.

Meanwhile, Memphis Depay will snub any offers from Spurs and is now a target for Newcastle, according to reports.
