Atletico Madrid are reportedly the latest side to join the hunt for Sergio Reguilon, with Tottenham not short of interest in their left-back.

The 25-year-old has had spells in and out of the Spurs team and was in fact a key player for Antonio Conte towards the end of last season. But after missing the final part of the campaign with a groin strain, he has yet to play again.

Reguilon did not even feature in Tottenham’s pre-season squad alongside Tanguy Ndombele and others.

Nevertheless, teams have been lining up to try to take Reguilon off Spurs’ books. Lazio were the first team to present an offer, with the Serie A side proposing a loan deal with an option to buy.

Earlier on Friday, further reports revealed Fulham are in talks with Spurs over a dry loan.

According to the Daily Mail, Atletico now fancy their chances of beating their transfer rivals to the left-back.

Indeed, they are ‘hopeful’ of winning the race for Reguilon and bringing the Spaniard back to his home country.

The six-cap international previously played for Sevilla – where his form inspired Tottenham to sign him – and Real Madrid.

Los Blancos still have a buy-back option for Reguilon after selling him to Spurs in 2020. That clause runs out on next Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The left-back played 31 times for Tottenham last season, including 25 times in the Premier League. However, his two goals and three assists were few and far between.

What’s more, he faced battles with the resurgent Ryan Sessegnon and Matt Doherty for his place last season. Now that new signing Ivan Perisic has joined Spurs, Reguilon has been pushed down the pecking order.

Reguilon may snap up Atletico move

Of all the offers that have arrived for Reguilon so far, he may feel Atletico’s is the most tempting.

The Spaniard would be able to return to the Spanish capital and even play in the Champions League.

That is something Fulham definitely cannot offer, with Lazio in the Europa League instead.

Reguilon may not have truly made his mark with Real Madrid, but his time with Sevilla showed what he is capable of.

That season, he helped Sevilla win the Europa League. Now, he just may fancy a step up to Champions League football.
