Sergio Reguilon could be targeted by Juventus if Tottenham Hotspur can wrap up a deal for Owen Wijndal in his place, according to reports.

A summer evolution is already underway for Tottenham. Predictably, they are looking to invest in their wide areas, since Antonio Conte relies heavily on wing-backs. In turn, the futures of those already at the club are coming into question.

Tottenham have already taken Ivan Perisic on a free transfer from Inter Milan. The Croatia international can feature in the attacking line or as a left wing-back.

But in the latter territory, Tottenham may be in the market for an additional reinforcement. Recently, it emerged that they are interested in Wijndal.

In turn, existing option Reguilon may be sacrificed. Some have raised questions of his standards, so it may be time for Tottenham to cash in.

Real Madrid, from whom they bought the Spaniard, have a buyback clause. But if they do not activate, Tottenham will have to find a buyer elsewhere.

According to Italian source Calciomercatoweb, another potential suitor for Reguilon is Juventus.

The Serie A side, once managed by Conte themselves, are looking to make their own signing at left-back. Alex Sandro is the wrong side of 30, while younger backup Luca Pellegrini has not convinced.

Therefore, Juventus could turn to 25-year-old Reguilon to solve their issues. He has never played in Serie A before, but neither had Sandro, who did well for them for several years before recently fading.

Now, Reguilon could be his successor. Tottenham’s asking price will reportedly be in the region of €30m (£25.7m).

Reguilon and Tottenham could each find a better fit

Given Wijndal would be cheaper to sign, it could be good business from Tottenham if they can hold out for that sum.

Reguilon, a Europa League winner while on loan at Sevilla in 2019-20, still has something to prove. His time at Tottenham seems to be nearing its end but perhaps a fresh start in Serie A could benefit him.

What’s more, he would not be sacrificing the Champions League football that Tottenham attained by the end of the season. Juventus will also be in the competition next season, so he can continue at a good level.

Perhaps it would simply be a better fit for him. But as things stand, this is just a link and does not appear to be an advanced negotiation of any description.
