Sevilla are finding a deal for Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon tough to navigate because of his wage demands, a report has claimed.

The Spanish left-back moved to Spurs in the summer of 2020, arriving as a key Jose Mourinho signing. He played 27 Premier League games in his debut season, which also saw Mourinho lose his job.

Nuno Espirito Santo and his successor Antonio Conte have both kept Reguilon as a key part of their plans.

However, Conte experimented with the Spaniard, Ryan Sessegnon, Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal in his Tottenham wing-back positions.

But as the summer transfer window has come around, Reguilon’s future is now in fresh doubt.

Indeed, Sevilla – who had the left-back on loan from Real Madrid in the 2019/20 season – are looking to bring him back.

They want another loan deal for Reguilon, but according to the latest from AS, Sevilla are finding another deal for the player hard to formulate.

Reguilon’s wages increased when he moved to Tottenham and so Sevilla could struggle to afford him this time around.

What’s more, AS claims that there are more top European clubs – while not naming them – looking to sign Reguilon before the transfer window shuts.

Nevertheless, Reguilon is keen on the move back to Sevilla because of the relationship he built up with manager Julen Lopetegui in the season he spent on loan.

Reguilon enjoyed Sevilla spell

The full-back played 38 times for Sevilla, scoring three goals and five assists.

He particularly caught Tottenham’s eye in the Europa League. Despite not playing Sevilla’s first seven games in the competition, he starred later on to help them clinch the trophy.

Reguilon scored against Roma in the last 16 before assisting a goal against Manchester United in the semi-finals.

His then-parent club Real Madrid were also impressed at his progress, including a buy-back clause in his Tottenham move.

That clause expires this summer and, as it stands, they do not look likely to make use of it.

Tottenham star could move on

Back at Tottenham, Conte has added Ivan Perisic to his ranks for his left-wing-back role.

The Croatian and Conte struck up a partnership at Inter which helped lead the Serie A side to the title.

And with Sessegnon still an exciting young talent looking like he is finally finding his feet, Reguilon’s future looks uncertain.

He will of course get game time if he stays at Tottenham. Spurs are back in the Champions League next season and will appreciate the depth, especially with the five substitutes rule coming in.

However, if Reguilon wants to hit his best form again – like at Sevilla – he may be better off moving back there again.
