Sergio Reguilon and Tottenham are in advanced talks with a European club about the left-back’s move away north London, according to a report.

Reguilon was left out of Antonio Conte’s pre-season squad, along with Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele. All four players have been told to find new clubs and Reguilon has got to work on his next destination straight away.

On Monday, the Daily Mail revealed Sevilla were hoping to re-sign him. Reguilon was at Sevilla in 2019-20, on loan from Real Madrid, and helped the Spanish side win the Europa League.

Football Insider provide an update. They claim talks between Reguilon, Tottenham and Sevilla are already at an advanced stage.

Discussions are focusing on a season-long loan for the defender, just like his last spell at Sevilla. It’s unclear at the moment whether there will be an option to buy as part of the deal.

Sevilla have taken part in ‘extensive talks’ with Spurs and Reguilon’s entourage. They all think the transfer will be agreed soon.

Reguilon, 25, is currently training at Hotspur Way while the rest of the squad prepares to take part in their tour of Asia.

He will want to finalise his future in the next few days/weeks so he can begin training properly for the upcoming campaign.

Sergio Reguilon to replace new Villa signing

The fact the Spaniard was left out of Conte’s squad came at a perfect time for Sevilla. They need a new left-back following Ludwig Augustinsson’s loan move to Aston Villa.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Villa have the option to buy Augustinsson for £3.8m at the end of next season.

And Reguilon could now arrive at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium as Augustinsson’s replacement, should the talks with Spurs go from ‘advanced’ to ‘completed’.

Reguilon will like the fact he has the opportunity to go back to his native Spain. And he should get regular game time at Sevilla given Augustinsson’s exit.

It is perhaps a bit harsh for Conte to drop Reguilon so abruptly. The full-back made over 30 appearances in each of the last two seasons and has proven himself as Spurs’ number one left wing-back.

But Conte now has Ivan Perisic in his squad. They know each other well from their successful time together at Inter Milan and Conte must now feel he has little use for Reguilon.

Ryan Sessegnon is likely to become Perisic’s backup on the left flank. This is a good move from Conte as the 22-year-old should pick up plenty of tips from his more experienced team-mate.

Meanwhile, Spurs are in the mix to sign a Barcelona forward, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.
