Napoli scored three times in the final 10 minutes to beat Torino 5-3 in an enthralling Serie A fixture at Turin's Stadio Olimpico, with Blerim Dzemaili scoring the most unlikely of hat-tricks.

The Switzerland international, formerly of Torino and who prior to Saturday night had scored only four Serie A goals for Napoli, opened the scoring with a tremendous long-range effort after 10 minutes.

But Paulo Barreto equalised for the home side and, after Dzemaili claimed his second, a penalty from Jonathas after 74 minutes and an opportunistic strike from Riccardo Meggiorini had Torino in front at 3-2.

However, Dzemaili claimed a classy third before substitute Edinson Cavani, who had conceded the earlier penalty with a handball, scored a tremendous free-kick and a well-taken header to give Napoli a win which puts them two points ahead of AC Milan in second place.

Cavani was left on the bench following his trip to South America for international duty so Lorenzo Insigne came into the attack for Napoli, with Goran Pandev playing off the young Italy international.

Napoli's opening goal after only 10 minutes came from a rather more unlikely source though. A corner was unexpectedly played deep along the ground to Dzemaili, who ran onto the ball 35 yards from goal and unleashed a thunderous effort that rose viciously and fizzed past Jean Francois Gillet.

Torino responded and the home side should have drawn level after 15 minutes. Alessio Cerci delivered a dangerous cross from the right and Mario Santana, on loan from Napoli, rose unmarked eight yards out, only to get under the ball and send his header over the bar.

Barreto would not prove as wasteful on the half-hour mark though as he made it 1-1. Napoli were unable to clear and after a goalmouth scramble the ball squirted right to Barreto, whose shot took enough of a deflection off keeper Antonio Rosati to divert away from Paolo Cannavaro on the line.

It was a relatively even contest, though Napoli possessed the greater threat and on 39 minutes should have gone back in front. Italy international Christian Maggio burst into the box and was brought to ground by a clumsy challenge from Matteo Darmian. However, Marek Hamsik's penalty was woeful as he struck a low effort far too close to Gillet.

Napoli wasted little time in edging back in front at the start of the second half though. Hamsik, free on the left, pulled the ball back to the edge of the box where Dzemaili's outstretched leg poked the ball into the corner of the net.

Cannavaro also tested Gillet with an acrobatic and well-executed overhead kick but Torino, who had wanted a penalty when Ricardo Meggiorini was knocked to ground by Cannavaro, weathered the storm and equalised in unexpected fashion on 74 minutes.

Cavani had been introduced to strengthen the Napoli attack but instead the Serie A top scorer was guilty of a handball as he blocked the ball with his arm before starting a counter-attack. Napoli were furious but the decision was correct and substitute Jonathas found the bottom corner from 12 yards.

The game turned completely when Torino added a third after 78 minutes. Cerci popped a pass through the centre of the pitch and Miguel Britos made a horrendous error as his heavy touch allowed Meggiorini to steal in and round goalkeeper Rosati.

Napoli were suddenly behind, but Walter Mazzarri's side summoned up a stunning response and Dzemaili took them level on 80 minutes with a fine finish with the outside of his boot from the edge of the box.

Having conceded the penalty for 2-2, Cavani then chose to settle the contest in his side's favour. On 84 minutes he scored a quite brilliant free-kick when bending the ball to the right and then left as his effort snuck inside the post.

In the final minute of regulation time Cavani added an expert header when getting in front of his man to meet a cross from Juan Zuniga and direct the ball low into the far corner to finally settle the most engrossing of matches.
