The Nerazzurri have been installed as favourites to sign the 32-year-old centre-back, who recently confirmed that he will leave Manchester United when his contract expires in June.

The Gazzetta dello Sport report that while there is interest from Spain, Russia and Galatasaray, only minor details remain between the player and Inter agreeing a three-year contract on a starting salary of €2.6m (£2.1m).

The sports daily believes that president Thohir is planning to announce Vidic’s capture during his next visit to Italy, between February 21 and 27.

Sporting director Piero Ausilio was reportedly in London yesterday to meet with the Serbian, who has apparently requested a dossier on all the players based in Serie A, as well as the teams and relevant information.
