They go head-to-head in the International Champions Cup at 23.30 British time on Saturday night in Charlotte, North Carolina - a match which you can follow LIVE with us at Eurosport-Yahoo.

“Balotelli is a big talent,” said Rodgers. “I saw that in this time at Inter as a young player and obviously going to Manchester City when we had a real close eye on him there.

“He’s got all the qualities. He’s 6ft 3ins, he’s quick, his touch is terrific and he can score goals. He went back to Italy to play and he’s still so young.

“If his focus is right, his concentration is right and he leads the lifestyle of a top player then he can play for any team in the world.”

Balotelli had already been linked with Arsenal and Monaco this summer, but Liverpool are looking for a new striker.

They sold Luis Suarez to Barcelona and their signing of Loic Remy collapsed when he failed a medical.

“We won't have too much business to be done but we still have a few areas we want to strengthen,” added Rodgers.

After losing one extremely temperamental striker with a tendency to hit the headlines, do Liverpool really want to replace him with another? Balotelli would certainly be an eye-catching addition but, unlike Suarez, he needs to play in a central role and not floating off another striker, meaning he would surely conflict with Daniel Sturridge. It doesn't seem a goer to us.
