The Bianconeri man was in Barcelona on Wednesday to have keyhole surgery on his right meniscus after playing through the pain barrier until the Serie A title was wrapped up last week.

The timing was selected to give him a chance to feature at the World Cup.

It means that the 26-year-old has played his last Serie A game of the season, but should be back for this summer’s World Cup – starting on June 12.
