There are ‘serious doubts’ within Man Utd that Ralf Rangnick will have an impact on the club moving forward, according to reports.

Rangnick took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as interim boss at the end of November with the Red Devils on a poor run of form.

But the German has struggled to turn the ship around as Man Utd currently sit in sixth position, five points off fourth-placed Arsenal having also played two games more.

Rangnick will move into a consultancy role in the summer, which he agreed on arrival at the club, with Ajax boss Erik ten Hag taking over as permanent Man Utd boss at the end of the season.

Complicating matters is the news at the end of last week that Rangnick will become the new Austria national team manager at the same time as fulfilling his new job at Man Utd.

Both Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have detailed their concerns about the dual role and now the Daily Telegraph insists ‘there are serious doubts as to whether he will have any kind of meaningful say’.

With sources telling the newspaper that they ‘believe Rangnick will quietly fade into the background’ once he begins his consultancy role.

Rangnick has put forward his recommendations for the summer transfer window with the belief that Man Utd ‘need at least two new strikers and Ten Hag is likely to agree with that although it may depend on what future he believes there is for [Marcus] Rashford’.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool defender Carragher has described Rangnick’s role as Austria boss and Man Utd consultant as “nonsense”.

Carragher said on Sky Sports: “Ralf Rangnick isn’t really a manager, he’s a director of football, he’s someone who helps the coaches or builds the club.

“I’ll be honest with you I just don’t get that. I don’t think you can be manager of Austria and work for Manchester United.

“He can work for Manchester United in that role…well that’s wrong. That should not be happening.

“The manager of Austria should not be working part time for Manchester United. That’s just a nonsense! It’s one or the other.”
