St Mirren have suspended defender Shaun Rooney following an alleged incident in Glasgow City Centre.

The Buddies announced tonight that the former St Johnstone hero had been suspended "on a precautionary basis" as the club undertakes a full investigation.

A club statement read: "St Mirren Football Club has suspended Shaun Rooney today, on a precautionary basis, after he disclosed to the club his involvement in an alleged incident in Glasgow City Centre last week. The club will now undertake a full investigation into this incident and will make no further comment during this process."

Rooney moved to Paisley from Fleetwood Town during the summer and has clocked up ten appearances so far. He scored on his debut against Valur Reykjavik in August.

However, the 28-year-old will be unavailable for selection until further notice, ruling him out of this week's Premiership clash at Motherwell.
