Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick has become the latest player to reveal racist abuse sent to his Instagram account following his side’s win over Chelsea on Saturday, hours after Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha had posted messages sent to his account.

Zaha revealed ahead of Sundday’s game against Aston Villa that he had been the subject of racist abuse.

West Midlands Police said on Sunday afternoon that a 12-year-old boy from Solihull had been arrested and taken into custody.

McGoldrick, who scored twice in the 3-0 win over the Blues, posted the abuse late on Sunday night, with the caption “2020 and this is life”.

His club this morning said: “We will support David McGoldrick and do all we can to find the perpetrator of this disgusting message.

“We will work with the relevant authorities to ensure the person behind this post is brought to justice. This cannot continue. Something needs to change.”
