England and Sale prop Andrew Sheridan will join Toulon this summer.

Sheridan has agreed a three-year deal with the French Top 14 club, who already have England internationals Jonny Wilkinson, Simon Shaw, Steffon Armitage and Dean Schofield in their ranks.

The 32-year-old's decision to leave Aviva Premiership signals the end of his England career. The Rugby Football Union's policy is to not select players based outside English domestic rugby other than in exceptional circumstances.

Sheridan, who has won 40 England caps and two for the Lions, made one appearance at the 2011 Rugby World Cup before flying home to undergo shoulder surgery.

Sheridan was close to moving to Toulon last year before deciding to take up the option of a 12-month contract extension with Sale - but he had always been open about his ambition to play in France.

Sale's sporting director Steve Diamond told the Manchester Evening News: "Sheri's going to move to Toulon. It's his decision.

"He's been a loyal member of the club for a long time but he feels that he's best suited for the next two or three years to try his hand by playing over in France."

Sheridan could be joined in Toulon by another loose-head prop in the shape of Wales international Gethin Jenkins, who has been strongly linked with a move to the south of France along with fellow England internationals Delon Armitage, the full-back, and lock Nick Kennedy.
