Shop, Eat & Drink: Angela Hartnett and José Pizarro launch EOTHO-style discount scheme in Bermondsey Street

Bermondsey restaurateurs Angela Hartnett and Jose Pizarro have teamed up to launch a new community initiative, which will see local businesses offer Eat Out To Help Out-style discounts during September.

The “Shop, Eat & Drink” scheme aims to boost and maintain business in Bermondsey Street, a local hospitality hub where both Hartnett and Pizarro run restaurants.

Over the next month, a collection of restaurants, bars, shops and services based on the high street will offer a series of discounts on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

“Bermondsey Street has been a hub of activity for many months, with locals loyally supporting all the Bermondsey restaurants and independent businesses via takeaway and more recently through the Eat Out scheme,” said Hartnett.

“We’re proud to be a part of this community spirit and hope that by all joining together during September, we can keep momentum going and the street buzzing.”

“Community is very important for me and nowhere is it more profound than on Bermondsey Street”, said Pizarro, who also lives nearby.

“I am so happy to have all businesses coming together to support one another.”

Hartnett’s Italian restaurant Cafe Murano and José Pizarro’s duo of Bermondsey Street venues – Spanish restaurant Pizarro and tapas bar José – will both extend their Eat Out To Help Out deals, offering 50 per cent off food and soft drinks (up to the value of £10 per person) on the allocated days. They are being joined in the extension by French bistro Casse-Croûte.

Local shops will also take part, with grocery store Giddy Grocer selling £4 lunch deals, as well as gift shops Lovely & British and Bermondsey 167 offering 20 per cent discounts on purchases from Monday to Wednesday.
