Bruno Guimaraes has launched a strong defence in favour of his Newcastle United teammates after they were criticised following defeat to Premier League champions Manchester City.
Thousands of supporters were quick to offer their opinion on the performance and result, which was decided by Julian Alvarez’s 31st-minute goal. On Twitter, one popular fan account @NUFC360, which boasts just under 134k followers, tried to provoke a discussion on Tuesday morning.
They asked: “Is it too early in the season to start focusing blame onto individual players? Was there an overreaction to the loss to Man City?”
The tweet caught the attention of Guimaraes, and he furiously hit back.
“Is this serious?” the Brazilian questioned. “We are in Champions League football we lost against maybe one of the best teams in the world and we have a big win and lost one game!
“Support in the best moment is easy! Short stupid memories you all have look what we have done for the team this 1 year and half.”
NUFC360 apologied for the tweet and the 25-year-old has since deleted his own reaction.
“We are with you @brunoog97, this post was a way to try and focus on the craziness of those trying to find players to blame after two games,” NUFC360 replied. “I’m sorry if this was not expressed on that manner. NUFC360 is behind all of our players.”
The post has certainly sparked debate, however, with a number of other prominent NUFC social media accounts coming out in favour of Bruno and his teammates.
Fan-run, matchday flag group Wor Flags were passionate in their defence of the United star man. They tweeted: “Bruno telling it straight. Love it. Get behind the team. #BG39”.
