Arsenal have begun preparations for the brand new season with players making their own start to the summer’s work. The European Championships and Copa America remain ongoing meaning some players are still with their respective nations while others have just begun their delayed holidays.

Some of the senior group have been in Marbella with manager Mikel Arteta getting a headstart on preparations too. However, some of the younger club members are already in north London with some of the coaches.

Arsenal released images of the first training sessions for both Mehmet Ali’s under-21s side and Jack Wilshere’s under-18s. Some familiar faces have returned to the club from loan whilst a new arrival is making himself at home among his new teammates.

Biereth and Patino return

Two high-profile youngsters have both been spotted with the team following contrasting loan spells who both have uncertain futures at this stage. Mika Biereth won the double with Sturm Graz in Austria after joining on loan from Arsenal in the January transfer window – becoming their starting centre-forward and following in the footsteps of Rasmus Hojlund he scored five goals and got three assists in 15 Austrian Bundesliga appearances.

Meanwhile, Charlie Patino spent the season on loan with Swansea City alongside fellow Gunners Charles Sagoe Jr. After different managerial changes, Patino’s minutes were restricted and he failed to establish himself in the starting XI.

Lucas Nygaard spotted

Arsenal announced their first summer signing with the arrival of Lucas Nygaard last week. The Danish youth international is a much-needed addition after several goalkeepers were released at the end of last month following the expiration of their contracts.

Nygaard was spotted taking part in his first sessions with the club following the move. He was included with the under-21s images giving an insight into where he looks like he will be playing his football during the forthcoming season.

Nwaneri new number

One of the expectant promotions to the senior squad in the short term remains Ethan Nwaneri. He has received something in the way of a promotion regarding his squad number which as shown in the images has changed from 63 to 53.

This remains a youth number however and his presence with Mehmet Ali’s side appears to be an indication that any senior promotion is yet to occur. The US tour takes place in just under three weeks and there is hope among supporters that Nwaneri may indeed be able to go away with the group to play in the friendlies and get some meaningful minutes.
