Club legend Gilberto Silva has argued that a switch to Arsenal would be a “good move” for Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus.

The Gunners are in need of at least one new striker this summer. It was claimed earlier this week that they had ‘agreed personal terms’ with Jesus.

His future at Man City is in doubt as his contract is set to expire in 2023. If he stays, he will likely play less next term considering that Pep Guardiola’s side have signed Erling Haaland for £51m from Borussia Dortmund.

Jesus performed well for City in 2021/22 as they retained the Premier League title. He grabbed eight goals and eight assists in the league in 28 outings.

Siva played 244 times for Arsenal between 2002 and 2008. He lifted the Premier League and FA Cup during this spell.

The Brazilian thinks a move to Arsenal would be good for Jesus’ career:

“If he goes to Arsenal, I do believe it’s going to be a good move for him, also for Arsenal,” Silva told talkSPORT.

Silva went onto suggest that there has not been a “winning mentality” at Arsenal since Arsene Wenger’s exit:

“During a transition sometimes you lose also the mentality. I think this is what is hard because they had the winning mentality and at some point it seems like you’re losing this.

“As we lost some points, you have to have people able to work with the players and to put them in the right mood, in the right way to think.

“Listen we are in one of the best clubs in the world it’s not acceptable for us to do what we are doing. It’s time for us to do what is right and do it with the right mentality according to what the club needs.”

He added: “I know that compared to Man City and Liverpool they are not at the same level. Arsenal must work hard and work well to get back to the good times and start to sort the situation and compete for the title.”
