Simon Jordan has made his views on the appointment of Frank Lampard as the new Coventry City manager clear … and he is not completely down on the former Derby County, Chelsea and Everton boss.

The talkSPORT pundit and former Crystal Palace owner was pulling few punches when the Sky Blues appointment was discussed during today’s show.

Lampard, aged 46, will take charge of the Sky Blues for the first time this Saturday when they face Cardiff at the CBS Arena. And Jordan was quick to point out the minimum that Sky Blues owner Doug King will expect from his new manager - although not necessarily this season.

Jordan told listeners: "A lot of people are asking ‘Well, how does he get another go? Why is he getting another turn, he's been a failure in his last few jobs'.

“I think it's reasonable to put him in a Championship club because he's proven to a reasonable level that he can operate at that level.

“So, going into Coventry, who've got lofty ambitions - they've got an owner has been in the play-offs, felt they should have been in the play-offs last year and was ultimately a centimetre away from being in an FA Cup final - you are in a situation where they want upward movement.

“So, you know, I'm not interested in the Frank Lampard show. I'm not interested that the media are alighting on Coventry or Plymouth because Rooney happens to be at Plymouth or Lampard happens to be at Coventry.

“These guys have even got the chops to deliver for these football clubs that have upward only motivations, or they don't.”

Lampard has agreed a two and a half year deal to become the new Sky Blues head coach, and will be joined by coaches Joe Edwards and Chris Jones. He was due to meet the players today when they reported back for training.
