Simon Mignolet spots Celtic tactic that helped salvage draw against Club Brugge
Celtic's 1-1 draw against Club Brugge in the Champions League saw them scramble back from calamity, having gone 1-0 down thanks to a comedic own goal from Cameron Carter-Vickers.
But opposing goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has praised former boss Brendan Rodgers for sticking to his principles and not playing a 'single long ball' as his side found an equaliser. Mignolet, who played for Rodgers at Liverpool, conceded a goal to Daizen Maeda in the 60th minute as Celtic huffed and puffed for an equaliser on home soil.
They didn't force the issue, sticking to their possession-based style and it paid off with what could be a precious point in Europe, despite fans wanting their players to have secured all three. And the Hoops' patient approach has garnered praise from Mignolet, who was impressed that Celtic wanted to continue 'playing football', citing their calmness and trust in their methods as the reason why they found an equaliser.

Speaking after Wednesday's game in Glasgow, Mignolet said: "You can see it in the team — Celtic keep on playing football. Brendan always wants his team to play from the back, to have the ball, to be in possession. You saw that throughout the game. They didn't play one long ball in the whole game. That is probably why they came back in the second half.
"We were pushed back towards our own box, and couldn't come out of the pressure any more, although we had those chances on the counter attack. That is due to Brendan's philosophy.
"Celtic were better in the second half together with the support of the fans. We had some chances on the counter attack, Kasper [Schmeichel] made a good save, and we had a goal disallowed. But Celtic had the better part of the game in the second half. It was a fair result in the end."
And it wasn't just Celtic's boss who was praised for his tactical approach, with the former Liverpool goalie praising fellow compatriot and Celtic's record signing Arne Engels for his development in Scotland. He added: "Arne is doing really well.
"I had him in a fair few training sessions at Brugge, and you could see he had a really good right foot. Arne has shown in every single game that he can have a really good future, not only with Celtic but also for Belgium. I hope for him that he keeps playing like that. Luckily, he didn't score."
