One of London's grandest homes, formerly owned by Oscar-winning film director Sir Ridley Scott, is now on the market.

Situated in the quaint borough of Hampstead, the 18th century Grade-II listed property has an abundance of charm and is rich in history. Once the home of Sir Ridley Scott, who lived there for more than 15 years and refurbished the property circa 2010, the stunning north London home, known as Old Grove House, has a country-house feel with easy access to the city.

The story of how the current owner acquired the property is almost serendipitous. Living nearby on Church Row, she had walked past the house many times. It wasn’t for sale but after going to a party at the house and realising how beautiful it was inside as well as outside, she knocked on the door and asked to buy it. It wasn’t long before Old Grove House became hers in 2013 following a private sale. This is now the first time the house has been for sale on the open market for a quarter of a century.

At 0ver 7,585 sq ft, the four-storey property benefits from both grand and formal reception rooms with more intimate studies and sitting rooms, seven bedrooms and six bathrooms, a large walled garden, garage and off‑street parking for two cars.

Attached to the main house is Cottage House, a self-contained three-storey house of 931 sq ft with its own kitchen/dining room, reception room, bedroom, bathroom and terrace.

Behind the grand redbrick exterior, the interior is truly elegant. The property has high ceilings, sash windows and wooden shutters. Many original features remain including panelling, grand fireplaces and Rococo plasterwork in the dining room.

The interior of the house has been designed by the acclaimed Chester Jones and maintained by the building firm Taverners. Other highlights include the early twentieth neo-Georgian Tuscan doorcase with pediment, round arched entrance with keystone, panelled door, cornice head and patterned fanlight.

What's more, the breathtaking landscaped walled garden is inspired by the symmetry of Fenton House, the nearby National Trust house which has been described as an ever-changing horticultural gem. It is over 120 foot in length and features a formal lawned area with hedges, pathways, trees and topiary, and a secluded bench.

'Old Grove House is a tranquil hidden gem in the heart of Hampstead,' says James Diaper, head of sales at Savills Hampstead. 'The home is rich in history dating back to the early 18th century and is impeccably presented while retaining a wealth of period features.

'The attached yet self-contained cottage provides enormous flexibility and could be used for staff or visiting guests. It is a truly one-off property and a unique opportunity for a discerning purchaser.'

And guess how much it all costs? This property is on the market for £28,000,000 with Savills.
