Six Nations exclusive: Lisa Martin's second blog for Yahoo Sport

Scotland Women's captain Lisa Martin looks back on the defeat to England - and forward to the match against Wales

It’s easy to say the 32-0 score didn’t reflect the game, yet we feel the score against England didn’t represent the competitive nature of that match.

For the first 25 minutes the game was very edgy, with both teams tentatively trying to get the upper hand.

Scotland went in to the game with a focus on our performance and what we could do as a team and individuals to dictate the game, and our intent in defence showed that.

We are creating point-scoring opportunities but need to be clinical and with every foray in to the opposition 22 we should be leaving with points on the board.

England benefited from our mistakes and converted opportunities into points.

Going forward as a squad we need to eliminate those little errors so we’re not gifting our opponents chances.

There’s belief in the squad that we can do something special and we are challenging teams in every facet of the match, it’s just composure and stability that we need to continue to work on.

We’re putting a new squad ethos in place and instilling a culture of no excuses.

The only people that have an impact on the game are those in the dark blue jersey. We can’t take the easy route and blame factors out of our control, we’re the ones that need to take responsibility for the performance on the pitch.

All 23 players made a difference against England and showed why they had been selected to represent Scotland.

Lisa Thomson and Rhona Lloyd played exceptionally well in their debut starts and Debbie Falconer made a real impact in her first appearance off the bench too, there’s real talent coming through the ranks.

The key is consistency now, keeping these young players involved and building a strong 23 that filters down through the player pool.

It was great to hear Scotland Under-20 went on to beat England for the first time ever in the match after ours at Broadwood last Friday night.

Every game is important in the Six Nations, we’re looking to build on the momentum we gained against England and rectify those little mistakes for a complete 80-minute performance.

We know Wales will come out firing against us at The Gnoll this weekend, we’ve just got to be patient to build the phases and play in the right parts of the pitch.

If we get our performance right the outcome will take care of itself.
