Six Nations: Rory Darge returns to Scotland squad ahead of Ireland clash
Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend has added four players to his squad ahead of their Six Nations game against Ireland, with Rory Darge among the returnees.
Townsend has brought in four Glasgow players, while releasing two players back to their clubs ahead of Sunday’s fixture at Murrayfield.
Darge returned from a long injury lay-off for Glasgow Warriors a fortnight ago, featuring in the United Rugby Championship (URC) clash with the Lions.
He backed that performance up with a 54-minute stint in the 50-8 victory over Zebre Parma.
The 23-year-old returns to the squad after making his Test debut last year, coming off the bench in the Six Nations clash with Wales.
He is joined in the squad by clubmates Simon Berghan, Scott Cummings and Stafford McDowall.
Cummings returns to the squad having also recovered from a foot injury suffered in late October.
The Glasgow lock has played three matches for the URC side since fully recovering from the injury that saw him miss the Autumn Nations Series.
He comes into the squad for the suspended Grant Gilchrist, who misses the rest of the campaign.
Gilchrist has been handed a three-week ban following his red card in the last match away to France.
His early acknowledgement that the incident warranted a red card, his lack of intent, and clearly expressed remorse, meant the six-week entry point was reduced to three weeks.
Subsequently, the lock has been released from the squad along with back-rower Josh Bayliss, who will be available to Bath in the Premiership this weekend.
Prop Berghan adds depth in the front-row for Townsend’s charges, while McDowall adds more options in the midfield.
Scotland defeated England and Wales in their opening two tournament matches before losing 32-21 to France in Round Three.
A win over Ireland will secure the Triple Crown for Scotland, a feat they last achieved in 1990.
The tournament’s final two rounds see Scotland host Ireland and Italy at BT Murrayfield.
