Six Nations - Stats, Stats and Stats

There’s nothing like a few stats after a great first round of Six Nations rugby. Michael O’Connor looks back at some of the numbers ahead of this weekend’s games:

Italy made more metres on the opening weekend than any other team (426).

CJ Stander made more more carries (23) in his MOTM performance against Wales than any other player on the opening weekend.

After the opening round, Ireland remain the only team with a 100% kick success rate.

Italian centre Michelle Campagnaro made more line breaks (3) in the opening weekend than any other player.

Wales’ George North beat more defenders than any other player (6).

Wales’ Jamie Roberts and Talupe Faletau made the made the most tackles with 21 each.

Ireland’s Andrew Trimble missed more tackles than any other player (4).

Italy’s Carlo Canna scored more points than any other player (13) despite only turning professional less than 12 months ago.

Scotland fullback Stuart Hogg made more metres than any other player (101) in the opening round.

France’s Maxime Medard made more offloads than any other player (4) while Ireland and England each made only 1 offload in the opening round.

Wales failed to make a single line break against Ireland in their 16 - 16 stalemate.

Wales made more passes than any other team (203) while England made the least of any team (110) in the opening round.

Scotland’s Tommy Seymour had 7 carries against England but was turned over on 6 of these occasions (86%).

France’s Jules Plisson kicked the ball more than any other player (19) while Ireland’s Johnny

Sexton kicked the ball on only 7 occasions.

Italy’s narrow loss to France was the closest that they have come to an away win against “Les Bleus” since 1963 ( France 14 - 12 Italy).

Scotland have not scored a try at home to England in 12 years.

The last time Wales and Ireland drew a 5/6 Nations game was in 1990, it was also the opening round and each side went on to lose all of their remaining fixtures.

France beat more defenders (17) than any other team.

Italy turned over the ball more times than any other team (19) in the opening round.

Italy conceded the most penalties of any any team (13) in the opening round while Wales conceded the least of an team (6).

France made the most errors of any team (44) in the opening round while Wales made the least of any team (31).

Wales made more passes than any other team (198) while Ireland’s Conor Murray made the most individual passes (98).

Ireland made the most tackles of any team (170) in the opening round while France made the least tackles (102) of any team.
